Belfast Spring Continental Market

I hitched a ride to Belfast with Lee this morning. I had an early appointment in the city, and once that was over I had time to kill. I tried on clothes in Primark but bought nothing. I took a wee dander around the Spring Continental Market by the City Hall and got some delicious tropical flavoured frozen yogurt.
The layout of the market seems to have changed a bit and there were a few different stalls along with the old usual ones. When I was bored there, I walked over to the Waterstones near the Linenhall Library and bought a pot of tea while it threatened to rain outside.

Another good day.

The birthday celebrations begin early

We got the train from Ballymena to Belfast yesterday late morning. The taxi dropped us outside Aidans flat. Carri-Anne let us in. Inside we found a picnic basket with presents, a birthday cake and a balloon. We drank bubbly while we killed time before our lunch reservation at the Merchant.

We posed for the obligatory photos. Thirty. What's left of my youth is dwindling.

Gnocchi. Yum.
Swan shaped profiteroles! So lovely and pretty!

The piano person played some 'Happy Birthday' and the waiter brought out my cake. They took it away again after Carri-Anne tried to cut slices with the wine glass. They brought it back again, all sliced for us. And with forks. They think of everything.

Walking over to the Garrick from the Merchant.
The Garrick were having an Hawaiian themed luau. We were all given grass skirts, leis and flowers for our hair. Drinks were served in pineapples and a cheesy looking Elvis film was shown on the projector. We love the Garrick.
Lee found some old school friends
We had a wonderful Sunday and were sad to leave and get the last train back to Ballymena. We have such good friends, and I have such a wonderful husband. I'm a lucky girl!*

*Can you still be considered a 'girl' at almost thirty?

Another day about the town

This morning we had our tea in Camerons. Their cakes and buns always look so pretty and I couldn't help taking a (not so) sneaky photo.

Mother in law had the tray at the tea stand and I overheard: 'can you tell me why she's taking pictures of the cakes over there?' to which mother in law replied, 'Oh, because they're so pretty, and well, she takes pictures of everything'. I walked over, smiled and said that I was sorry, and maybe I'm not allowed to take photos? She totally ignored me and grumbled and frowned while pouring the tea and coffee.

Grumpy bitch. I made a point of not tidying up our table when we'd finished our tea and pastries. Ha!

Pretty buns at Camerons

Tan pumps from Dunnes.

Tiny teapot charm which is going on a chain and becoming part of a necklace.

Another successful day out in the town.

Cold and damp - walking the dogs at the Ecos Centre

Dogs on the 'winnie the pooh' bridge

Benny and Tina were beginning to get restless, stuck up in the house and the garden for the last few days. So we braved the weather and took them out for walk at the Ecos Centre. We were rained on, and the wind blew a whole lot. But by the end of the walk, the sun had come out and we were dried and the doggies were happy and tired out.

Oh! Boohoo

Mother-in-law and I spent a goodly part of yesterday morning looking for a 'peter pan' collared dress. We looked everywhere in the town and found nothing. Dejected and (almost) defeated, I took a look online and found one! This afternoon it arrived. I'm soo heppy...

I had to try it on immediately. It needed an iron.*
It was only £12 on Boohoo.com. I think I've found a new favorite online shop.

*It's been done since.

Beef

Beefy's a naughty kitty. I found him lying on our bed. He knows he's not allowed up there. But he's so cute, I couldn't help rewarding his bad behavior with cuddles, kisses and tickles. Then took him back down to the kitchen.

Things are looking up a bit. The Icelandic ash cloud seems to be clearing, I found a lovely peter pan collared dress online which mother in law has bought me for my birthday (picture to follow soon), I got one or two important phone calls and well, we all have our health.

And for all that I'm thankful.

Monday Montage 23.5.11

I've been doing a few of these collages lately. They're colourful and they take up less space! I was productive today. I baked bread, I got presents for the kiddies ready, I made french toast for my breakfast, and I cleaned!
Ashley also likes brown paper packages tied up with string!
Our living room has been so unorganized for so long. I tore everything from it's corner/box/crate, threw things away, filed, dusted and polished and made it all comfy, cosy and clean.
I'm pretty proud of myself. I spent hardly any time on the computer/online today and I got stuff done! I'm also feeling way more positive. It's amazing what a bit of hard work can do.

Chill

I've been feeling so bogged down by negativity. Everything has just seemed wrong and sad and bad. All the news on the telly, the papers, online. Hospital waiting rooms. People

I've had a bad week. I've behaved horribly, I've been moody, sulky and surly. I've not been a happy girl, it all got too much.

So.

No more news sites. Certainly not 5 to 6 hours daily of reading the news or hearing of it. I'm going to try and chill a bit. I'm going to spend more time looking at puppies and kittens, wear more colourful clothes, bake more cakes and biscuits and only look at happy, colourful and positive things. I'll stop assuming the worst immediately. I'll stop self diagnosing horrible and scary illnesses. I'm going to try and think the best about people instead of being so judge-y all the time.

It'll get better again. And in less than two weeks we're away on holiday and I'm hoping for some sunshine, some 'Enid Blyton' themed tea parties with my sister and niece and some spontaneous bursting into song. Poor Lee.

Turn, turn...turn.

Well, it was coming, so I can't say I'm surprised. But ja, to everything, there is a season. It's just a bit of change is all.

Sigh, which has sucked me in to the glorious world of oldies on YouTube including the Mamas and the Papas, The Tremeloes and a bit of ol' Bob.

I like cheese

This morning there was only one slice of Dairylea cheese left. And Lee put it on my sandwich.

That's love.

Three years

I missed the actual anniversary of arriving in the UK. It was the 15th of May. I may post more pictures of my first few weeks/months here...but I'm at work, and I don't have many pictures to work with.

I had a pretty good time :)

Lethargy

Eurovision snack board
Last night we sat, slumped in front of the telly watching Eurovision. We snacked and laughed, took a break to watch the Foo Fighters live on the other channel, then snacked and laughed some more during the voting bit. I think Lena should have won again. I liked Lena and her quirky song from last year.

Lee wouldn't let me gel his hair, Jeward style, otherwise I'd have better pictures!

And today has been spent loafing in the living room. I do like lazy days. And it rained and rained and was grey, so it wasn't even wasted. Not really.

Maybe we'll do better next weekend.

Date eve/night

We still had a gift voucher from Christmas for The Blackstone from Kerri and Stephen, so we used it last night.

I fancied a change of hair and Kerri has the BaByliss thermo ceramic rollers...

I love curls! The rollers have been added to my Amazon Wish List. I Love Amazon!

Mother-in-law helped me with them, because I'm impatient and lazy and I like my hair being played with.
The result

We had a lovely evening at the Blackstone. I started with the breaded mushrooms, Lee had some breaded creepy prawns and I had chicken for my main, Lee had the duck and we shared a bottle of wine.

I love date nights!

Lunch time

Lee makes me the nicest lunches for work! Lunch is even nicer when it's wrapped up in greaseproof paper (we ran out of cling film), like little brown paper packages, just not tied up in string.

Point-to-Point - A day in a field

We didn't have any plans for the day and the family were going to the Mid-Antrim Point to Point at the Higgins Estate in Moneyglass. And so we went along for an afternoon standing in a field with some horses and old men in their flat caps.
Young men too, in their flat caps!
Shaun, me, Lee and Uncle Joe

I didn't expect to enjoy it, but I did. Everyone was so cheery and so entertaining.

Mother's day

It's Mothers Day in South Africa (and the USA) today. I'm sad that I can't be with my mom today and that both of her daughters have scarpered off to different continents. If we were there, I'm sure we'd be having a lovely Sunday roast, or sitting outside in the lapa and eating lots of yummy home-made things and giggling and acting stupid.

I love you ma!
