Movie night

We're a bit behind on Harry Potter and since the rest of the world is going mad and talking about little else, we figured it was probably time to catch up a bit. So last night we set up the living room cinema style, ordered pizza and opened up a new box of cider. We're classy. We then spent the rest of the evening watching The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix. And tonight, we're going to do it all again and watch The Half Blood Prince. Instead of pizza though, we'll be heating up left over lasagne. I love lazy slothful weekends.
And I'm making the most of it because tomorrow I start my new job. I'm kind of nervous, but surprisingly I'm not filled with self doubt, dread and loathing. It'll probably kick in in the morning.

A small cottage wherein laughter lives is worth more than a castle full of tears

We were up early this morning. Lee wanted to go back to the driving range and I didn't feel like wasting my morning in bed. So while he practised his swing I went off on a walk around the castle grounds. I took a lot of photos...

There's a small chapel in the grounds that was burnt down in 1798.

I want to go back again and do the Galgorm Castle walk. Next time.

My plight

I just had to share this because it seems so damn apt. I saw in here and she thinks she got it here.

Yesterday evening at the driving range

On the weekend Lee climbed in to the roof space and had a hoke* around for the golf clubs. I'm guessing the sudden surge of Northern Irish champions has inspired him to get involved too. And why not? He's good at everything else he does. So yesterday after dinner we took a drive over to Galgorm Castle and the driving range.

Just...no.

I was out in the town today, buying toothpaste, posting letters...town things. Since I was already there, I figured I might as well try on some clothes and I thought it'd be nice to try something different. How very wrong I was.

Am I wearing these wrong?? Why would anyone intentionally give themselves saggy old lady bum...on purpose? This can't be how they're meant to look, surely?
Sadly, this is probably going to be an item I loathe, right up until just before it goes out of fashion and then I'll suddenly love it and not be able to buy them anywhere. Ok I doubt it. And I'll take my chances.

Everyone seems to be wearing red lipstick. So, curious, I bought a cheap stick...just to see...

I'll add that to my list of fashions I probably wont be following. Unsuccessful shopping trips are so uninspiring.

Our Sunday in (a lot) of pictures

We had another day in the garden. Lee watched the Formula One and drank wine and I sat in the sun with my floppy hat and book and drank cider.

I made burgers and Lee cooked them on the fire and made his yoghurty beetrooty sauce.
We had the pleasure of Aidan and Carri-Ann popping in. They'd been out lunching at Galgorm's River Room. They still had enough space to eat a burger each.

Later, Lee brought out his guitar. I love him in his flat cap and playing pretty songs.

BBQ in the sun

It was sunny, as promised. Lee got out the bbq, also as promised, and we put some salmon on it. We spent the whole day in the garden, and then when it got a bit chilly and windy, sat in father-in-law's studio.

We had to stop the ice cream van man when he drove by. It's customary.

I spent most of the day reading. I'm loving 'Water for Elephants'.
I love warm lazy days spent outside.

Friday

I made yummy meatloaf for dinner. I had to tweak the recipe a wee bit, but it turned out pretty damn nice, if I may say so myself...

This morning I found Beefy on our bed. I had curlers in my hair and I think I scared him. This is how he looked before jumping off the bed and running away. Beefy's a wuss.
The weather is getting better and there's talk of possible heat waves (though not in Northern Ireland, hmph). And with warmer weather comes barbecues and a whippy from the ice cream van. And I get to wear shorts and lie out in the sun.

It's starting to look up again

These past two months, between Canadian holidays and planning French ones, I've been unemployed. This week I finally got some good news and I'll be starting my new job on the 1st of August. I'm so excited!

More good news is that being married to Lee, the visa process is a whole lot easier than it was the last time I had to apply. I've been day dreaming about this trip to France since it was mentioned a few weeks ago. We're so much looking forward to holidaying with friends!

Needless to say, I've had a fair bit of extra time on my hands recently. I've enjoyed playing housewife and spending time drinking tea in caf├ęs with Lee's mom, trying on all the clothes in the sales, pouring over new found (and old) blogs, reading books and lying around in bed longer than usual...but I'm so thankful for a job to go to in just over a week.

Beefy love - 'cos the cat's too cute

Just 'cos he's got a lot to say, doesn't make him less loveable.

Clothes I wish I'd bought

I tried on these dresses about a week ago. They were on sale in New Look. I didn't buy them...and I wish that I had. Maybe not so much the middle one, which is perhaps a bit old lady-ish on me...but I'd grow in to it, dammit!

We were out in the town again today, mother-in-law and me, and I didn't find anything. s'alright though, we had a nice morning looking through the sales, drinking tea in the cafe and chatting...and chatting.

Baking cupcakes - it's Kerri's birthday

I just felt like baking something, and I had these spotty cupcake cases, so it was the obvious choice. I set myself up in the kitchen with the recipe on my netbook and some Regina Spektor on random. Regina makes me happy.

They look a bit like a child made them, but they're fairly tasty. And we ran out of butter, so I couldn't make butter icing, I didn't think it'd be the same with margarine.

Now I need to get changed for Kerri's birthday dinner, we still don't know where we're going, but I'm hungry!

Postscript:
We went to The Big House in Ballymena and the food was amazing. We brought the cakes...
